Gentlemen of Jazz

Gentlemen of Jazz were formed in March 1985 by the cornet player and bandleader Leo Bruun. Today the band plays closer to the original New Orleans-style than ever before inspired by Bunk Johnson, George Lewis and the English trumpeter and band leader Ken Colyer.

Gentlemen of Jazz have performed all over Denmark, given concerts in Germany, Great Britain and Sweden and have released 10 CDs. The loyalty to the New Orleans style has lead to several recordings and concerts with some of the best interpreters in jazz music. For instance Gentlemen of Jazz is the only Danish band that has recorded a CD with the world famous English clarinet player Acker Bilk. On this CD you can also hear the Danish trombone legend Ole "Fessor" Lindgreen. He was so pleased with working with the band that he later returned together with the piano player Torben "Plys" Petersen and made the CD "Blues for Ory".

The highlights on the stage have been playing with the clarinet player Ian Wheeler from Chris Barbers jazzband and with Brian Carrick, whose interpretations of the New Orleans classics on George Lewis’ original metal clarinet are fantastic. The tour with Brian Carrick was crowned with an excellent CD.

Gentlemen of Jazz perform both as a sixman-band and as a quartet, and lately they have also added churchconcerts to their repertoire.
